Three, Two, One… Happy New Year!!
Have I ever mentioned that New Year’s Eve is my favorite holiday? Some people might roll their eyes at that comment, but it is true. I love that we dedicate an entire evening to drinking champagne, wearing glitter, hoping for a kiss from your crush, and gazing at the possibility of a new year. I romanticize this day as much as the hit 2011 movie New Year’s Eve.
Why am I telling you all of this?
It dawned on me that I never told ya’ll about my most epic New Year’s Eve photoshoot. I say yet because I would love to capture an NYE wedding.
Our story starts at the intersection of the eve of 2020 and the first few months of my photography career. I was the young gal dressed in a black puffer jacket, clutching my camera and snapping pictures of Music City’s New Years’ Eve celebration. Nashville was calling all people to end the decade alongside artists such as Keith Urban, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, The Struts, and so many more.
Visit Nashville contracted my business to capture content to share with their sponsors. I was responsible for capturing images to prove the visitors center used the sponsor’s funds as they said they would.
Did they pop the correct champagne when the clock struck midnight, and were sponsor
slides playing all night long?
Running around like a squirrel, I captured anything and everything I could. All while soaking in the magic of a new year coming, a new decade dawning , and a new career path forming. Once I finished working, I had the opportunity to enjoy the festivities. Being back on the VIP wing was insane. Doing the countdown at the front of the stage and being showered in confetti is a memory I’ll keep forever.
It was such a dazzling night. While I haven’t had another New Year’s Eve like that, I still adore this holiday. It is a chance for you to stand on the edge of time looking over into an abbess of the unknown, which can be overwhelming and scary or empowering and exciting. As Hilary Swank said in one of my favorite rom-coms, “That’s what new year is all about — getting another chance. A chance to forgive, to do better, to do more, to give more, to love more. And stop worrying about what if and start embracing what would be. So at midnight, let’s remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other. And not just tonight but all year long.“
What will it be, friends? Are we going to worry about what, if, or embrace what will be in 2023?
xoxo,
Annie T.
